# of songs, instrumentation, sonic references.
Determine what will be tracked first, second, third, etc. Estimate number of hours/days needed. Schedule sessions and collect deposit. Put together track sheet with details on what mics and outboard gear will be used on what instrument.
An intern will set some things up ahead of time. Artist/band loads in at start time of session. Artist/band sets up. Engineer finishes setup. Time is spent getting sounds.
Artist/band starts making takes in whatever fashion works best for them (full takes, sections, etc.). Overdubs follow as needed.
Time permitting, Engineer will edit performances, comp vocals, tune vocals, and perform other necessary modifications to the captured audio.
Time permitting, Engineer will put together a quick mix of each song for the artist/band to take home.
Schedule additional recording time if needed. Once everything has been recorded, files will be prepped either for mixing in house or for the artist/band to take to another mixer.
An internal backup is made and offered to the client.
